Author Intro + Surname Pronunciation Guide

Video transcript

While I’m here, I’d better tell you a little bit more about myself. I’m a Korean-Australian adoptee living in Melbourne. I’m teacher trained and working in education, but I majored creative writing at the incredible Flinders University.

I have been writing for fifteen years and you can find my short stories published in Meanjin Quarterly, Westerly Magazine, Island Magazine and The Big Issue. I have received a number of amazing opportunities in this industry including a  mentorship with New York Times best-selling fantasy author, Sean Williams, and also Sophie Hamley from Hachette Australia. I was the 2019 recipient of the Express Media, Wheeler Centre for Writing’s Kat Muscat Fellowship. I have been shortlisted for a number of Australian literary prizes including the Kill Your Darlings Unpublished Manuscript prize. I was also a writer’s room consultant for Ra Chapman’s incredible Television Series, ‘White Fever’ available for viewing on ABC Iview.

When the Blue Moon Wakes will be my debut novel published with Bonnier Books in the UK, Australia and New Zealand with translations incoming in French and Italian.

Oh and I totally forgot. My wonderful editor, Kelly Smith, asked me to include a pronunciation guide to my last name which is . . . the ‘Australianised’ pronunciation is just simply, Skrzypczak. Skrip-jack. But if anyone wants to have a crack at the Polish pronunciation it is technically sk-ship-chuck. So Sk-ship, chuck. Skshipchuk. So, yeah, have fun with that one guys!
